Puppies
Wavemaker does not have puppies available on demand.
If your goal is a well-bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier, stop shopping for the next available litter and start looking for the breeder whose values, dogs and decisions you trust. Then be willing to wait.
The breeder-puppy relationship lasts a few weeks. The breeder-owner relationship may last fifteen years or more.
What we breed for
When we plan a litter, we are trying to preserve the Stafford as a complete dog: health, temperament, sound structure, movement, breed type and the ability to live a full companion life.
We do not breed for color, oversized heads, exaggerated muscle, social-media fashion or a guaranteed future champion. No ethical breeder can promise what an eight-week-old puppy will become in the show ring.
The homes we look for
We especially value homes in which the dog will be part of daily life. You do not need to be a competitor. You do need time, patience, a sense of humor, a realistic understanding of the breed and an interest in training the dog in front of you.
Staffords are strong, physical, enthusiastic terriers. They can be mouthy as youngsters, leap before looking and greet life with their entire bodies. They are not decorative couch accessories, and the old “nanny dog” label should never be used as a substitute for active supervision of dogs and children.
We favor reward-based training and expect owners to build a relationship through clarity, reinforcement, management and skill rather than intimidation.
How placement works
Introduce yourself. Tell us about your household, current animals, schedule, dog experience, training plans and what attracted you to the Stafford. Expect us to ask questions too.
Puppies are matched to homes based on the individual puppy, not simply chosen in deposit order by color or sex. We generally keep puppies long enough to learn a great deal about temperament and development before final placement decisions are made.
We do not ship Wavemaker puppies as sight-unseen transactions. New owners collect their puppy in person.
What you can expect from us
You can expect health information, honesty about the breeding, a written contract, guidance during the puppy’s transition and lifetime support. If circumstances ever change and the dog needs another home, contact us.
Find the breeder first. Then wait for the puppy that makes sense.
