Rescue

Rescue Is Part of Responsible Breeding

Before looking for a puppy, consider whether an adult Stafford in rescue might be the right dog for your home.

Rescue is not separate from preservation breeding. Every responsible breeder should care what happens to dogs after they leave a breeder’s hands — including dogs bred by other people when the breed community needs help.

Our responsibility to dogs we breed

Any Wavemaker Stafford that needs a new home should come back into our orbit. Contact us. We will help make a safe plan rather than allowing a dog we produced to become someone else’s anonymous rescue problem.

We strongly encourage permanent identification, current microchip registration and lifetime breeder contact information.

Ways to help Stafford rescue

  • Adopt when the right rescue dog fits your household.
  • Foster if you have the experience and environment to do it safely.
  • Help with transport, home checks, breed identification or networking.
  • Donate directly to reputable Stafford rescue efforts. (only SBTCA or TSK in this country)
  • Support responsible owners before a crisis becomes a surrender.

The Stafford Knot, Inc. also supports Stafford rescue and breed education through fundraising activities. Purchases from its shops support the organization’s mission; any tax-deductible portion of a payment depends on the nature of the transaction and the receipt provided, so we do not describe ordinary merchandise purchases as automatically deductible donations.

Rescue is not a slogan. It is the willingness to help when the dog in front of you is no longer convenient to someone else.
