Illustrated Standard

The Illustrated Standard

Words become more useful when we can see what they are trying to describe.

The Illustrated Staffordshire Bull Terrier Standard project was created to help breeders, judges, owners and students visualize the written Breed Standard through drawings, comparative examples and discussion of structure, movement and breed type.

It is an educational interpretation — not a replacement for the official standard and not a catalogue of one “correct” look. Staffords vary within type. The purpose of illustration is to make proportions and structural relationships easier to discuss, not to turn one drawing into a template every dog must copy.

The project grew through collaboration among Stafford people, artists and educators in several countries and has been used in seminars and educational settings internationally.

Use the Illustrated Standard alongside the official written Standard. Read the words first, study the images, then go back to real dogs and watch them move. That is where the education becomes useful.
