Plumb comes from the second of three collaborative breedings between Wavemaker and Ballyhoo Staffords, a partnership that has become particularly meaningful to us.
After many years of planning and developing our breeding program, we reached a point where we no longer had a suitable bitch to carry our plans forward. We explored several possibilities, but finding the right direction proved more difficult than we had anticipated. We weren’t interested in breeding simply to produce another litter; whatever came next needed to make sense for the dogs, their pedigrees, and the future of our program.
Fortunately, our friend Kelly Cromwell of Ballyhoo Staffords was willing to work with us. Kelly generously opened her breeding program to a collaboration that allowed us to continue pursuing our goals while remaining thoughtful about health, temperament, structure, and breed type.
Together, we planned three breedings, with Plumb coming from the second pairing, Colton × Mazikeen. We’re enormously grateful to Kelly for her friendship, trust, and willingness to share dogs she has worked hard to develop. Relationships like this are one of the things I appreciate most about breeding Staffords, and this particular partnership came along at a time when it meant a great deal to us.
As for Plumb herself, she’s a rather interesting little character. She’s a quiet, balanced bitch with pleasing proportions and the sort of understated breed type that becomes more apparent the longer you look at her. There is nothing particularly exaggerated about her, which is one of the things we appreciate.
Her personality is equally understated, although I suspect Plumb would disagree with anyone who thought that meant she lacked opinions. She is independent, thoughtful, quietly amusing, and quite content to approach life according to her own timetable. Persuading her that your idea is better than hers can require considerable patience, and even then, the outcome is far from guaranteed.
We enjoy her individuality as much as we appreciate her qualities as a Stafford. Watching her mature will be a pleasure, and we’re looking forward to seeing what she may contribute to Wavemaker in the years ahead.
Plumb will always hold a special place here, not only because of the qualities we see in her, but because of the friendship and cooperation that made her possible. We’re grateful to Kelly and Ballyhoo Staffords for being part of her story and ours.
Staffords first. Always.
